1908. Through Albéniz, he obtains a grant from the Spanish crown enabling him to remain in Paris and finish his Pièces espagnoles. In January, he tours the north of Spain as the third member of a trio with violinist Antonio Fernández Bordas and cellist Víctor Mirecki. Completes Con afectos de júbilo y gozo (23 March). Paul Milliet translates the libretto of La vida breve into French, with a view to having it performed in France.
1909. Ricardo Viñes premieres the Pièces espagnoles (Salle Érard, Paris, 27 March), which are accepted for publication by Jacques Durand on the strength of recommendations by Dukas, Debussy and Ravel. Begins to compose Noches en los jardines de España. Heavily revises the orchestration of La vida breve.
1910. On 4 May, the soprano Ada Adiny-Milliet, accompanied at the piano by Falla, premieres the Trois mélodies at the Société Musicale Indépendante. These songs, to texts by Théophile Gautier, are published by Rouart, Lerolle et Cie. First encounter with Igor Stravinsky. Meets Georges Jean-Aubry, Ignacio Zuloaga, Joaquín Nin and Wanda Landowska.
1911. First visit to London, where he gives a recital in March.
1912. Travels to Switzerland and Italy. In Milan, he negotiates with Tito Ricordi for the publication of La vida breve. On 30 November, Ricardo Viñes performs the Pièces espagnoles at the Sociedad Filarmónica Madrileña.
1913. La vida breve is premiered at the Municipal Casino in Nice on 1 April. On 30 December, the work is given its répétition génerale before the press and the public, at the Théâtre National de l’Opéra-Comique in Paris, where it is premiered officially on 7 January 1914. Max Eschig publishes the score and becomes Falla’s publisher. Falla meets Gregorio and María Martínez Sierra.
1914. (Paris. Madrid). Composes the Siete canciones populares españolas. At the outbreak of World War I, Falla returns to Spain and settles in Madrid. La vida breve is performed at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid on 14 November. Composes Oración de las madres que tienen a sus hijos en brazos in Madrid in December.
